On average first time buyers will have spent £52,900 on rent in England.
According to research from the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) this will increase, and if you are entering the rental market this year, on average you will spend £64,400 on rent before buying your first home.
Due regional affordable housing shortages, the rental market is set to rise. Last year alone rent paid to landlords (private sector) rose by 2.5%.
